Agricultural Plastics Recycling Equipment Help Turn Waste into Useful Things

Plasticulture is the new term coined for using plastic in agriculture. Though it has its known environmental hazards, plastic is now becoming an important material in farming. The use of plastic has paved the way for increased productivity, shortened growing season, and promoted crop growing location alternatives. Plastic is also use for storage of crops and grains.

Unfortunately, the amount of plastic being consumed resulted to millions of tons per year in North America alone. This paved the way for development of agricultural plastic recycling equipment.

The After Life of Plastics

Farmers have several options to deal with the very large amount of agricultural plastic:

•    Re-use for other purpose – some farmers have tried to make them as fillings for pillows just like the way rubber and straw are used. Kids have also made improvised toys out of these plastics.

•    Bury the Plastic –this is an option but not recommended by experts since the material will be hard to recover and contamination of the water may occur if certain hazardous materials are trapped in the plastics.

•    Landfill- this may not be a cost effective means to get rid of the plastics and most landfills do not accept agricultural plastics.

•    Fuel- plastics may be a great source of energy recovery but the cost of collection, shipping, reprocessing, and pollution are the main hindrances.

•    Recycling- the used plastics can be processed with agricultural plastic recycling equipment and be made to pellets. These can be further process to be used as plastic films, fencing, plastic moulds, posts, benches, tables, or farm pens.

Recycling of Plastic

Used agricultural plastics can actually be recovered by as much as 97%. This means that the plastic can be efficiently remanufactured into useful things again.

Agricultural plastic recycling equipment is used to accomplish plastic recovery and farmers have the following responsibilities to start the job:

•    Get rid of contaminants that may be present on the agricultural plastics like dirt, water, ice, and other agricultural substances. Strings should also be removed.

•    Plastics off the farm should immediately be stored indoor to avoid more contaminants and sunlight damage.

•    Keep the collected plastic clean and dry

There are specialists that can collect the plastics for recycling. They will then do the following:

•    Compress the volume of plastic into square bales for easier handling, transport, and storage.

•    Send to plants which can reprocess the plastic or store by bulk of agricultural plastic for future use.

The use of agricultural plastic recycling equipment shows great promise in involving the farmers in the recovery of plastic waste. This makes trash that can harm the environment into useful things that we can use in our day to day activities. GP
